My name is David Lewis. I’m a Canadian of Ukrainian/Welsh origins who lives part of the year on beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada and the other part of the year in sunny and warm Mexico. I’ve been sketching since my Artist mother would take me with her in the car at the age of 9 or 10. She would do oil paints and I’d attempt sketching. To this day, the smell of turpentine holds a special place in my olfactory memory.

I became more serious about art in my late 20’s when I took a pottery course at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. I definitely got the clay bug and spent a lot of time on the potter’s wheel. I eventually set up my own pottery, using low fired, earthenware clay and managed to sell a few pieces. Later on, I went to work as a clay technician for Lindgren Tile company. Although it was a terrific experience with very kind and talented people, I learned that production pottery was not for me.

I didn’t really take up acrylic painting until I was in my 60’s in Mexico. I became enamored of painting when I took a class led by a young Mexican man for whom paint was an extension of his fingers.  I also write, sketch, and sculpt in clay and wood. I’m hoping to get into lost wax metal casting. I’ll try to keep this website up to date but sometimes the clay gets in the way.
